Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
